✦ Synopsis

Abstract

A male infant, born following an uncomplicated pregnancy, was severely anaemic at birth following significant foeto‐maternal haemorrhage. At three weeks of age a tumour was found in the liver with evidence of metastatic disease in the lungs. The infant died before treatment could be started. Postmortem revealed choriocarcinoma which led to subsequent diagnosis in the mother who also had pulmonary metastases. The mother has been successfully treated. The case is described in detail and followed by a discussion and a literature review of reported cases of simultaneous choriocarcinoma in infant and mother. © 1995 Wiley‐Liss, Inc.

Vallecular cyst is a rare cause of stridor and respiratory distress in infancy and has been associated with sudden airway obstruction resulting in death. In a retrospective review of eight cases over a 20-year period all infants developed symptoms during the first week of life. All had stridor and f

## Abstract Parental awareness refers to parents' perceptions and making sense out of children's responses and behaviours. This study examined a theoretical model on the determinants of disturbed parental awareness, with a central place given to Belsky's buffer hypothesis. Maternal characteristics
