We consider the avalanche mixing of a monodisperse collection of granular solids in a slowly rotating drum. Although not yet well understood, this process has been studied experimentally for the case where the drum rotates slowly enough that each avalanche ceases completely before a new one begins.
Flow regimes in a horizontal rotating drum are important to industrial applications but the underlying mechanisms are not clear. This paper investigated the granular flow dynamics in different regimes using the discrete element method. By varying the rotation speed and particle-wall sliding friction
