โœฆ Synopsis

The wind-induced lateral-torsional motion of tall buildings with rectangular cross-section is investigated in the time domain. The effects on building vibration of statistical correlations among components of wind force and mechanical coupling of components of motion caused by mass and stiffness eccentricities are included in the paper. The max and rms values of various components of response are estimated and compared for different eccentricities. The result shows that the eccentricity of mass or stiffness may significantly affect the building's performance and the torsional vibration plays an important role in the dynamic response of a building if the building's torsional stiffness is near the lateral stiffness.

The procedure presented here provides an effective method for checking the serviceability and survivability limit state f,Dr wind-induced lateral-torsional motion of tall buildings.
