The INMOS transputer is a powerful VLSI microprocessor that is especially suited for the construction of large arrays for parallel computation. We discuss the general features of such arrays and illustrate these with a simulation of a generalised XY model with possible applications in liquid crystal film modelling.

The paper describes the implementation on a transputer system of a novel parallel algorithm for dynamics simulation of a multibody chain. The algorithm is formulated at a level of parallelism which is natural for the problem but is essentially unavailable to other simulation dynamics algorithms. The
