✦ Synopsis
The objective of this study is to model the time-dependent change of the tree distribution pattern in a pure Scots pine stand. Based on stochastic processes, an evolution model was constructed and used for stand simulations. The time-dependent development of the tree distribution pattern can be modelled using two dierent processes. First, the development of the number of trees is described by death processes. Then, the time-dependent tree distribution pattern is explained by tree number-dependent Gibbs point processes. Using Gibbs point processes, the values of the pair potential function can be explained by planting space as well as by eects of intraspeci®c competition. Simulation results show that the model is suitable to explain the tree distribution pattern of the stand.
