β¦ Synopsis
Many biological systems exhibit periodic OT rhythmic behaviour. Some mathematical mode25 proposed for this class of systems invqZve an on-off relay followed by a large time delay within a feedback structure. This paper presents a method for simulating the reZay-deZay combination exactly without invoking any approximations for the delays. The method is then used to simulate respiratory a/id cardiovascular systems whose models involve relays and large time delays. Possible synchronization of these tie oscillations due to coupling betueen the tie systems is also experimentally investigated.
