✦ Synopsis
The Positron Emission Particle Tracking (PEPT) technique utilises a radioactive tracer particle to obtain the trajectories of solid or fluid elements in real time. In this work, PEPT was used to study (i) the motion of non-Newtonian CMC solutions inside a vessel agitated by an axial flow impeller and (ii) solids mixing in a rotating V-blender.
In the stirred tank study, PEPT can measure higher particle velocities than the normal laser technique and flow patterns around the agitator can be obtained. In the V-blender study, DEM simulations show satisfactory quantitative agreement with PEPT experiments. PEPT confirms that the DEM model used in this study can predict the major flow phenomena in the blender.
