✦ Synopsis

Equilibrium extracts from soils of different horizons at a single profile were examined. The AI species in the extract were characterized with oxine and chelex-100 exchange techniques. The amount of A1 was found to depend strongly on the availability of organic ligands, especially the more strongly-binding ones, in the soil. The reaction to an acidic input to the soil was also found to be controlled by the amount and the nature of the organic ligands.
