The complexity of computation in a multidimensional digital$lter stability test using resultant theory is reduced by exploiting a criterion .for a polynomial having complex co@cients to be a Schur polynomial. The computational advantage is illustrated by nontrivial examples invoIcing polynomials having both numerical and literal coeficients.
