✦ Synopsis

Recognition structures on cells and alloantibodies 109

Since both chains contribute to the formation of the antibody site, the possibility of random association of heavy and light chains considerably increases the diversity of antibody-combining sites with same number of heavy and light chains [20].

The genetic transmission of the parental antigens in the NuGa reported in this article appears to be similar to the inheritance of the allotypes at the 5 and b_ locus in the rabbit [3, 211. It has been supposed that composite molecules existing in hybrids of plants and animals contribute t o the "hybrid vigor". In fact, hemoglobin found in a hybrid fish is constituted by maternal and paternal pure molecules and by hybrid molecules formed by two maternal and two paternal chains. These hybrid molecules have superior blood gas transport properties [22].

The immunological potentialities of the Numigall should be investigated, in view of Jerne's recent theory [23].
