They live on a ship with their motley crew of outcasts with Silver as the captain and Peter as first mate. Both were born with strange gifts: Silver can speak to animals and Peter can see briefly into the future. These are gifts they have kept secret, even from their crew, for magic is not something that is always accepted. But when a job goes wrong and they find themselves with a mysterious orb, a girl with strange powers, and being chased by half-machine, half-living creatures, it will take a little more than cunning to make it out alive.
