The Silicon Photomultiplier (SiPM) is intrinsically a very fast device, its single photoelectron timing resolution is about 100 ps FWHM. Therefore real timing properties of the system scintillator+SiPM is determined mostly by timing properties of the scintillator+light collection system. We present

โฆ Synopsis
A novel type of photodetector-Silicon Photomultiplier (SiPM) is described. SiPM is high gain (1 000 000), low noise, single photoelectron sensitive, very fast (less than 100 ps) detector. The possibilities and limitations of SiPMs for Particle Physics Application such as tracking, calorimetry, particle ID are discussed.
