**Abstract** Siliceous sinter precipitation within hot spring systems has been attributed to a variety of mechanisms: evaporative concentration, cooling, changes in pH and cation effects. Repetitive __in situ__ (T, pH, alkalinity, etc.) and laboratory (major, minor and trace elemental, stable isotop
