A Halottak feltámadása, a Csontdaráló[i] és a Jöjj, édes halál![/i] után itt az újabb Wolf Haas-krimi!

Bécs után a Brenner ismét egy nagyhírű osztrák városba kerül. Salzburgban járunk, a Marianumban, a híres katolikus fiúinternátusban, ahol küszöbön áll az itteni lelkiatya, a Monsignore Schorn püspöki kinevezése. Ám akad egy kis bibi, ugyanis egyik régi növendéke, a Gottlieb bejelenti, hogy a lelkiatya régen egy kissé izé, szóval úgymond megbibézte őt az internátus zuhanyozójában. Nagy botrány fenyeget tehát, és a Brennernek azt kellene kinyomoznia, hogy vajon mennyi az igazság a Gottlieb vádjában. De vele már nem tud beszélni, mert a régi növendék huszonhárom darabra vágva kerül elő egy csocsóasztalból. Egyre több a mészárszékre emlékeztető haláleset, és a pokolian morbid kavalkádban egyre-másra bukkannak fel a prominens személyek, többek közt az Ünnepi Játékok alelnöke, egy híres argentin tenorista, a Dr. Feelgood nevű rockbanda, valamint az egykori amerikai elnök, a John F. Kennedy is. Nyomasztó, ugyanakkor roppant szórakoztató bűnregény, ma különösen aktuális jelentéssel, erősen társadalombíráló, szatirikus hangvétellel megírva.
