A Martin Freud, autor de este libro, lo conozco desde hace treinta años. Hijo mayor de Freud, fue, como lo dice en esta obra, puesto a cargo del Verlag, la firma editora que había creado su padre. Con frecuencia lo traté como editor y también en el círculo familiar. Pude apreciar entonces su vivaz personalidad, su humor juvenil, que jamás le dejó, aun en las más difíciles circunstancias, y que no ha afectado el paso del tiempo, como podrá atestiguar el lector de este libro. Martin evoca en toda su frescura las impresiones infantiles del niño vivaz que fue bajo la vigilancia de su gran padre, sus vacaciones en las montañas, todo impregnado del aroma de las frutillas silvestres y de los grandes hongos (Herrenpilze) que a su padre tanto le gustaba descubrir.
