โฆ Synopsis
Abstract
In this paper we establish a link between the sigma transformation approach and the arbitrary LagrangianโEulerian (ALE) approach. For that purpose we introduce the ALEโsigma (ALES) approach, which consists in an ALE interpretation of the sigma transformation. Taking advantage of this new approach, we propose a general ALES transformation, allowing for a great adaptability of the vertical discretization and therefore overcoming some drawbacks of the classical sigma transformation. Numerical results are presented, showing the advantages of this general coordinate system, as, for example, a better representation of horizontal stratifications. ## Abstract The hydrostatic pressure assumption has been widely used in studying water movements in rivers, lakes, estuaries, and oceans. While this assumption is valid in many cases and has been successfully used in numerous studies, there are many cases where this assumption is questionable. This
## Abstract An implicit method is developed for solving the complete threeโdimensional (3D) NavierโStokes equations. The algorithm is based upon a staggered finite difference CrankโNicholson scheme on a Cartesian grid. A new topโlayer pressure treatment and a partial cell bottom treatment are intro
Sophisticated catchment runoff problems necessitate conjunctive modeling of overland flow and subsurface flow. In this paper, finite difference numerical methods are studied for simulation of catchment runoff of two-dimensional surface flow interacting with three-dimensional unsaturated and saturate
