โฆ Synopsis
The Short Wavelength Spectrometer is one of the four astronomical instruments in the Infrared Space Observatory. At the input of this cryogenic spectrometer, two shutters select one of the three entrance slits. A fourth setting closes the entrance for dark-current measurements. The design of the shutters and results of performance tests on a prototype are the subject of this paper. The shutter vanes are mounted on cross-spring flexure pivots; results of cryogenic lifetime tests on these pivots are also discussed.
