Ab s t ra c t. The multiplicity distributions of charged shower particles in high energy reactions arc studied in the framework of a statistical model based on the approximation of the phase space integral. The model is first applied to the proton-proton collisions and then further extended on geometrical basis to include proton-nucleus and nucleus-nucleus collisions. Although the model is parameter free, it gives quite satisfactory results in comparison with experimental data.
