โฆ Synopsis
Healthcare ethics committees (HEC) assist with biomedical decisionmaking through a variety of formats. Members may consult on difficult cases, review hospital resource allocation decisions, and provide emotional support to persons involved in difficult cases (1). The question I shall address is whether HECs should add to their repertoire the function of initiating policies to prevent recurring bioethical dilemmas. I shall argue that doing so can enhance the quality of medical decisionmaking within the healthcare institution.
