## Abstract Oxygen and deuterium isotopes in precipitation were analysed to define local isotopic trends in Iowa, US. The area is far inland from an oceanic source and the observed averages of ฮด^18^O and ฮด D are โˆ’ 6ยท43โ€ฐ and โˆ’ 41ยท35โ€ฐ for Ames, โˆ’ 7ยท53โ€ฐ and โˆ’ 51ยท33โ€ฐ for Cedar Falls, and โˆ’ 6ยท01โ€ฐ and โˆ’
