Measurements of railway noise were conducted by use of a diagnostic system of regional environmental noise. The system is based on the model of the human auditory}brain system. The model consists of the interplay of autocorrelators and an interaural crosscorrelator acting on the pressure signals arr

✦ Synopsis
An integrated environmental management system was recently developed for the pulp and paper industry under a European Union BRITE-EURAM project FIBRESAVE (BE1427). The primary goal of this project was to develop an integrated overview of the pulp and paper manufacturing processes, and to build a powerful software system as an engineering toolbox to provide on-line information on gaseous, liquid and solid pollutant discharges. This system leads to reduced levels of pollution by enabling management to observe, on a day-to-day basis, the impact of material inputs and mill conditions on the environment. Therefore, this system is a vital part of the mill's environmental management system. The system is an integrated software system combining advanced database technologies, air and water quality models, numeric algorithms, data retrieval and visualisation and report generation. The overall package was developed with a state-of-the-art graphical user interface for use by all operators, and a prototype was prepared for a Kraft pulp mill in Setubal, Portugal.
