✦ Synopsis

Abstract

A simple short‐ended coaxial cylinder probe measuring bulk dielectric constant of porous media using time domain reflectometry (TDR) is presented. For the TDR application, reflection behavior of the probe is analyzed in time domain. For time domain analysis, first, input impedance of the probe is calculated using transmission line theory and impedance of each mode propagating in the probe. Second, reflection coefficient is obtained using the input impedance. For verification, a prototype is designed using analysis results and tested for the case of sand. The analysis results are in a good agreement with numerical simulations and measurements. Β© 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
