✦ Synopsis

Titania powder compacts have been subjected to explosive high-pressure loading of 20 and 27 GPa and preserved for post-shock analysis. Anatase phase material transforms to rutiIe at pressures exceeding 70 CPa, while rutile phase material remains in the rutile phase. The presence of platinum metal on titania particles does not appear to influence this transformation. Neither the brookite or h&h-pressure a-Pb02 phases of titania are observed in either titania powder. The observations on anatase are the first reported.
