β¦ Synopsis
A survey of the algebraic and the statistical properties of sharp and unsharp quantum effects is presented. We begin with a discussion and a comparison of four types of probability theories, the sharp and unsharp classical and quantum theories. A structure called an effect algebra that generalizes and unifies all four of these probability theories, is then considered. Finally, we present some recent investigations on tensor products and quotients of effect algebras. Examples and representative results for the various theories are discussed.

## Abstract Recently, the change in optical properties of ultraβthin silicon on insulator films was shown to be due to quantum confinement. The __E__~1~ critical point shifted to higher energies with a 1/__L__^2^ dependence, and the shift was observed room temperature. Yet, quantum confinement effe
## Abstract The relations of quantum and kinetic isotope effects are investigated using the exact quantum corrections to the collision and activated complex theories. The latter are computed for the collinear threeβatomic reaction H~2~ + H β H + H~2~ and the related isotopic reactions using realist
