An iodocyclocarbamation procedure has been developed for the stereoselective preparation of erythro-and threo-2-(1-hydroxyalkyl)piperidines. This methodology was utilized in the asymmetric synthesis of two piperidine alkaloids, (+)-ฮฑ-conhydrine and (+)-ฮฒ-conhydrine.
