โฆ Synopsis
The Becker friction vacuum gauge is based on the measurement of the damping of mechanical vibrations of a metal ribbon caused by the surrounding gas. The lower limit of the pressure measurement range depends mainly on the internal damping in the material of the vibrating element. This damping is influenced by the choice of a suitable material of the ribbon but it also rises with increasing tension in the vibrating ribbon. This way the increasing tension worsens the lower limit of the pressure measurement range but on the other hand it raises the frequency of the vibrations and thus improves the shake resistance of the gauge.
