β¦ Synopsis
m this paper, we illustrate how the notion of shadowing can be applied to the prediction problem for dynamical systems. We start with the assumption that we observe a sequence of states from a dynamical system and that we have identified a reasonably accurate model of the system.
Our objective is to use this model in a type of observer design where the error between predicted and real values is fed into the observer in order to correct the prediction and increase the shadowing length.

Following Shannon we introduce higher order entropies and derive dynamic entropies. The nth order dynamic entropy (conditional entropy) is a measure of the uncertainty of the next state which follows after the observation of n foregoing states. In this paper a continuous time version of a previous discrete systems optimisation algorithm is developed. The new algorithm uses prediction of costates within a three level structure to provide an efficient organisation of both the storage and the computation. The algorithm which applies to both l
