The theme of the 1989 Neurotoxicology Conference is Neurotoxicology and Risk Assessment. The objective of this Conference is to provide a well-organized international forum for the presentation of data and discussion of the issues surrounding this important and timely topic. Presentations and discussions will center on research data and risk assessment as it relates to the effects of toxic substances on the developing, adult, and aging human nervous system. The conference will help define the present status of risk assessment as applied to functional and structural neurotoxicity as an endpoint (versus the more commonly used endpoint of carcinogenesis). Recommendations will be presented which may have impact on the issues raised by this topic.
