โฆ Synopsis
Fourteen sesquiterpenoids with an eudesmane C-atom skeleton, including four new ones, (1b,5a,7b,8b,11b)-5-hydroperoxy-1-hydroxyeudesm-4(15)-eno-12,8-lactone (1), (1b,5a,7b,8b)-8-(acetyloxy)-5-hydroperoxy-1-hydroxycostic acid methyl ester (12), and a mixture of (1b,3b,4b,7b,8b)-1,3dihydroxyeudesma-5,11(13)-dieno-12,8-lactone ( ) and (1b,3b,4b,7b,8b,11b)-1,3-dihydroxyeudesm-5eno-12,8-lactone (8), were isolated from the aerial parts of Inula japonica (Asteraceae). Their structures were determined by extensive spectroscopic methods, and those of 7 and 12 confirmed by means of single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis.

The volatiles isolated from the leaves and flowers of fnufa viscosa (L.) Ait. were studied by means of GC and GC-MS. The oil obtained by hydrodistillation was shown to contain borneol (25.2%), bornyl acetate (19.5%) and isobornyl acetate (22.5%) as major constituents, whereas that isolated first by
