CONCLUSION
In high-frequency signal generation using semiconductor lasers, design considerations should be given to parasitics as well as a matching circuit for optimum performance. The integrated laser model is a simple dynamic model based on transmission-line laser modeling that can be used easily to include such effects. The description of the laser processes in terms of well-known circuit concepts provides additional insight into the dynamics of semiconductor lasers. Besides its simplicity, the flexibility and speed of transmission-line laser modeling could prove useful in advanced photonic systems design, which may involve many photonic components. For future work, broadband matching circuits could be implemented, and used for other high-frequency signal generation schemes using semiconductor lasers such as mode locking or Q-switching.
