Brillanti e beffarde, colte e irriverenti, queste short stories, veri e propri “racconti dal vivo”, vanno quasi a comporre un romanzo in frantumi e narrano di un luogo chiamato Belgrado, di un Paese chiamato Serbia in una travagliata fase di transizione. Veličković presta la propria voce a una comunità lacerata, che vive in biblico tra un «passato che non è mai passato» e dal quale si ereditano conflitti, tragedie e triviali derive nazionalistiche, e un futuro appeso a un filo di incertezza e scetticismo che dovrà sciogliere il dilemma di una colpa collettiva. Acuto interprete degli umori, delle sensazioni e dei sogni nascosti di una città intera, così come del proprio singolare spaesamento, l’autore è un intellettuale che ancora pratica il “conosci te stesso” pur se con laconico disincanto. La medesima disillusione con cui denuncia un regime liberticida che soffoca critica e dissenso, e un Occidente libero e democratico che getta bombe “intelligenti” nel cortile di casa sua. Una confessione che è insieme testimonianza civile e autoterapia, sguardo amaro e irresistibilmente ironico gettato sul presente da un luogo che in realtà è un vizio irrinunciabile. Questo vizio si chiama Belgrado.Dušan Veličković (1947), giornalista, scrittore, film maker ed editore, è una delle voci più originali e coraggiose dell’élite intellettuale serba. Negli anni novanta è stato uno strenuo oppositore al regime di Milošević, e a lungo direttore della celebre rivista “NIN”. Attualmente dirige la casa editrice belgradese Alexandria, che lui stesso ha fondato nel 1998.Due suoi racconti sono stati pubblicati nella raccolta Casablanca serba (Feltrinelli, 2003), curata da Nicole Janigro.
