A spectrophotometric flow-injection method based on a diazo-coupling reaction is proposed for the simultaneous determination of nitrite and nitrate. Nitrate is reduced to nitrite by using a reductor column which is formed by filling part of the sample loop with copperized cadmium. The flow system pr

β¦ Synopsis
This paper describes three new methods: the first may be used for the determination of nitrite; the second is applicable to determination of nitrate; and the third permits sequential determination of both nitrite and nitrate in mixtures with no prior separation. For the determination of nitrite and nitrate in synthetic mixtures containing 1:5 to 5:1 ratios of the ions, in tap water, and in river water, mean recoveries (for 3 to 22 g of added NO 3 Οͺ and NO 2 Οͺ ) are 96.1 and 98.1% (n Ο 15) and coefficients of variation are 2.2 and 2.5% for NO 3 Οͺ and NO 2 Οͺ (n Ο 5), respectively.

A direct spectrophotometric method for the simultaneous determination of nitrate and nitrite by column preconcentration has been developed. Nitrate is reduced to nitrite in a copper-coated cadmium column which is then treated with azo dye reagent by column preconcentration, and the absorbance due to
