Iron content of the bulk marine sediment from the Chilean continental margin has been used to infer millenial-scale climate changes in southeast Pacific [Lamy, F., Klump, J., Hebbeln, D., Wefer, G., 2000. Rapid climate change in northern Chile over the last 80 ka recorded in a marine sediment core.
The SEDEX method, a sequential extraction scheme for sedimentary phosphorus phases, was tested for use on eastern Mediterranean sediments using two in-house reference sediments. In addition a 2 M NH&l and a 0.1 M NaOH extraction were tested to extract CaCO,-associated and iron-bound P respectively.
