The Septuagint is the primary Greek translation of the Old Testament, which according to tradition was commissioned by Ptolemy II for inclusion in the Library of Alexandria.
Legend tells there were seventy-two translators, six from each of the twelve tribes of Israel, who worked independently to translate the original Hebrew text.
