โฆ Synopsis
Rcccntly a method has been described by l+rrz hND GAr~ALr~Ai for the separation of trivalent elements like aluminium(III), yttrium(III), and the rare earths as a group from divalent elcmcnts such as calcium(II), strontium(II), magncsium(II), and nickel(I1). The divalcnt elements arc elutecl by x.5 N nitric acid from a column of Dowcx so-XS resin, while the trivalent elements arc retained. A separation of the rare earths plus scandium(II1) from aluminium(II1) and those trivalent elcmcnts which accompany them in the proceclure of FRITZ would be of analytical interest, because most of thcsc elements precipitate together with the rare earths as hydroxides in the classical silicate analysis scheme. Such a separation is not possible by cation exchange in nitric acid media because the rclcvant distribution coefficients are unfa-TA JsJ..
