Abstract
A now method of separation of the rare earth series of elements is described which depends upon the different temperatures of volatilisation of the chlorides. Low pressures are employed to reduce the temperatures necessary to easily attainable ranges. Satisfactory results having boon obtained with artificial mixtures, the method was applied to the separation of a natural mixture obtained from monazite sand; the encouraging results thus obtained suggest that further investigations on this procedure would possibly indicate a rapid and effective method for the separation of the members of the rare earth series.
