✦ Synopsis


The *'F nuclear magnetic resonance spectrum of trifluoroacetic acid dissolved in a nematic mesophase has been measured as a function of spinning speed. From the spectra of molecules containing one 13C nucleus it is possible to determine the magnitudes of 'J,-F and 'JCF in the nematic phase, and their signs relative to the anisotropic coupling constants ' TcFZZ and *TcFZZ. it is possible also to determine the total anisotropic contributions to the "F shielding tensor.
