โœฆ Synopsis

A two-dimensional TLC method for the separation and identification of tetryl and related compounds is described. Production-grade tetryl contains N-methyl-N,z,4_trinitroaniline, picryl chloride,' picric acid, picramicle or N,2,4,6_tetranitroaniline, and N-methyl-z,4,&trinitroaniline.

Samples heated at 120~ for 48 11 contain picric acid and z,4,6_trinitroanisole as the major decomposition products, with decreasing amounts of picramicle and/or N,2,4,6_tetranitroaniline, N-methyl-2,4,0trinitroaniline, r,3,5-trinitrobenslene, and N-methyl-N,2,4-trinitroaniline.
