✦ Synopsis

Separate-type slot antennas were fabricated by physically joining a slot antenna produced on a Si substrate with a Bi bolometer produced on a quartz substrate through the isolation layer. Receiving properties for the millimeter wave radiation of the fabricated slot antenna were investigated theoretically and experimentally.

As a result it became clear that the fabricated antenna had almost the same power gain as the slot antenna fabricated on a Si substrate, as long as the thickness of the isolation layer was less than 1/100th of the wavelength of an irradiated electromagnetic wave, and the wave was incident on the antenna through the Si substrate.

With a view to increasing the gain of the slot antenna, an extended hemispherical lens coupled slot antenna is fabricated. The receiving characteristics for millimeter waves at 94 GHz are theoretically and experimentally studied. It is found that the power gain of the extended hemispherical lens cou

## Abstract Air‐filled patch antennas for millimeter‐wave (mm‐wave) applications are demonstrated using silicon‐based micromachining techniques. The antennas are fed by rectangular coaxial lines and made of five gold plated layers bonded together. Each layer is made by deep reactive etching on sili
