A method 1s presented for the measurement of the electron density m an expenmental plasma fusion device by means of mlcrowave reflectometry Smce mlcrowaves mth mcreasmg frequency can penetrate deeper mto the plasma, It IS possible to sample the electron density dlstnbutlon by frequency-sweep techniques For the first tune the system allows a non-contact measurement of the electron dens@ profile m the outermost repon of a magnetlcally confined plasma without separate cahbratlon The mfluence of strong electron density fluctuanons of up to 50% wth frequencies up to 500 kHz has been ehmmated by a fast sweep from 60 to 80 GHz with a sweep time of about 150 ps In connectIon with mlcrowave plasma heatmg expenments at 245 GHz, the theoretxally predlcted dependence of the reflectlon coefficient of the heatmg wave on the electron denaty has been confirmed
