โฆ Synopsis
The semiclassical self-consistent field method is applied to the computation of intrashell resonances of the He atom. Results for high-lying states, where quantum calculations are difficult, are accurate to better than 1% despite the fully chaotic nature of the dynamics. Like the exact wavefunction, the self-consistent field wavefunction shows pronounced scarring along the periodic orbit corresponding to an asymmetric stretch motion of the electrons.
