✦ Synopsis

Twenty five samples of Indian fly ashes of ASTM class F type have been investigated for correlating their reactivity with chemical and physical parameters.

Indian fly ashes contain relatively low amounts of soluble silica i.e. reactive silica and are of low pozzolanic character. An empirical equation has been derived for rapid estimation of reactivity of fly ashes with lime, taking into account the soluble silica content and fineness of fly ash. A correlation between Dhir's PPI index and LR values of the present fly ash samples has also been found.

A five-stage sequential leaching procedure, developed in this work, was successfully applied to fly ash samples collected at several emission sources. The solvent leaching experiments, together with solid phase examinations carried out by X-ray powder diffraction, provide information on the possible
