✦ Synopsis

The IiLL Auger electron spectrum oi the Hz0 molecule has been studed with respect to the transmons of lowest bmetic energy Calculations were performed to deduce the role of senu-mternal correlation m decidmg energies and mtensmes of the transmons. Previous studies of photoelectron specua of mner valence hole states mdxate that such effects arc of Importance for H20. The relevant loruc state m the Auger spectrum of Hz0 is the (Z~I)-~ hole state, for which final lomc sfate correlation uould be expected to be of Importance The present calculations, mcludmg a semi-internal Ct. mdlcate that this IS Indeed the cast. The smgle particle (1~)~~ -(2al)-* Auger transItIon rate IS spht among a number of double Ionic states of uhlch at least three have zgmfrcant mtenslty. Thus leads to a satisfactory account of thus prevrous-Iy unassigned energ) regron of the t120 Auger spectrum TransItron energes mvolvmg mrtral and final state shake-up, shake-off were also calculated

The Zpa, u=O, N=2-lsa, v= 18, N=3 transition in Hz hasbeen observed at 156632.8 MHz. This transition shows a cbaracteristic structure which we assign in terms of hyperfine, fme and electronic g/u symmetry-breaking effects.
