β¦ Synopsis
Figure shows that Wilde's actual procedure gives less accurate eigenvalues than does the procedure attributed to him (marked 'pseudo-Wilde'), which in fact gives results in close agreement with the exact ones. This new approximate procedure may be regarded as a refinement of the yon K~irm~in-Penner procedure s, for the two procedures use the same criterion for dg/dT at the hot boundary, but the new one uses a 'smoother' profile (g=T,,+l) than that of von K~irm~in-Penner (two straight lines).
The approximate results for non-normal diffusion reported in ref. 2 should now be regarded as based on an extension of the pseudo-Wilde theory rather than on an extension of Wilde's actual procedure.
