✦ Synopsis

We have studied the equilibrium problem of an orthotropic cylindrical shell in the design of composite materials -the draping of textile composites over surface of revolution. The shell undergoes large displacements during the draping process and the radius of the mould surface of revolution is the prescribed radius. Using suitable kinematic assumptions, we reduce the components of the local displacement field from three to one and space variables from two to one. Semi-analytical solutions to the above-mentioned reduced problem are given. 0 Elsevier, Paris textile composiks I orthotropic shell I Lagrangian formulation

In recent years, structural engineers have been gradually concerned with the analysis of cylindrical shells, which have non-circular profiles and are found to be in many engineering applications, such as aerospace, mechanical, nuclear, petrochemical, modern passenger airplanes, civil, and marine str
