Abstract
An experimental study was undertaken to verify the theoretical predictions that for a certain range of operating conditions an isothermal crystallizer would produce oscillating outputs even when the inputs were maintained constant. An interesting feature of the results is that even though a power‐law model and Volmer's model for nucleation kineties provided equivalent descriptions of the steady state data, predictions of transient responses based on Volmer's equation were much better than the power‐law results, and the observed behavior of the oscillating system was described well with Volmer's expression, whereas the power‐law equation predicted that the system would not oscillate.
