Learning self defence is similar in some way to insuring your house. The chances that your house will burn down are fairly remote, as are the chances that you will be violently assaulted. Yet most people insure their house, while surprisingly few will take out a personal insurance in the form of self-defence lessons. One difference between house insurance and violence against the person, however, is that the chances that your house will burn down remain relatively static, yet the chances that you will be violently assaulted are on the increase.
