## Abstract Efficiency of distributed amplifier based on bipolar junction transistors is low particularly at higher frequencies. The work presented here shows an increase in efficiency of up to three times by applying a proposed unequal biasing technique, which also eliminates the inefficient use o

✦ Synopsis
Abstract
A self‐biased distributed amplifier with wideband linearity improvement and efficiency enhancement is presented. With the aid of a self‐adaptive bias network, the location of IMD3 minimum is dynamically manipulated, while the DC bias power of the distributed amplifier is adaptively biased. Experimental two‐tone test successfully demonstrates more than 10 dB and 27% reductions of the first sidelobes and the DC power consumptions are achieved respectively in the proposed design when operating between 900 and 3300 MHz. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
