✦ Synopsis
Abstract
The synthesis and micelle formation of methacrylate‐functionalized phosphate and phosphonate amphiphiles containing alkyl spacers of eight and eleven CH~2~ groups is studied. The CMC of these molecules in aqueous solutions was investigated by DLS and conductometry. The CMCs were dependent on the polarity of the phosphorus head groups as well as on the chain lengths of the spacers and were in the range 25 to 42 mmol · L^−1^. The resulting micelles were crosslinked by applying UV‐ or thermally initiated FRP, forming stable spherical nanospheres. Their size varied from 10 to 400 nm depending on the organophosphorus compound used. The particles were re‐dispersible in water and showed a core/shell structure containing a hydrophobic polymerized core and a hydrophilic shell.
