Abstract

1,3‐Bis(5′‐methyl‐2,2′‐bipyrid‐5‐yl)propane (3) can be synthesized by a two‐step procedure starting from 3‐picoline (1). In a spontaneous self‐assembly process 3 forms the binuclear triple‐stranded meso‐helicate [(3)~3~Fe~2~][PF~6~]~4~ on addition of iron(II) salts. The (Λ,Δ) structure can be shown by symmetry considerations based on NMR spectroscopy and is due to the conformational restrictions of the [CH~2~]~3~ spacer.
